.STORM INFORMATION... At 1 PM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) was located near latitude 13.1N, longitude 148.5E. This was about 250 miles east of Guam. Storm motion was west-northwest, 285 degrees, at 8 mph. Storm intensity was 155 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW... A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for the Marianas as Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) continues its approach. Bavi is expected to make passage through the southern Marianas beginning Monday morning at high-end Category 4 or Category 5 strength. It is expected to continue toward the west-northwest and gradually increase in forward speed through Monday. The onset of tropical storm force conditions is currently expected this evening. The latest forecast track still maintains passage somewhere near or to the north of Rota Island, but there is time for the track to shift north or south. All islands will experience impacts. At minimum, damaging tropical storm force conditions are expected, but damage will be catastrophic near the center of Super Typhoon Bavi, with maximum sustained winds forecast at 160 mph at time of passage Monday morning. Significant flooding from torrential rains, and coastal inundation are expected. Surf will become extremely dangerous ahead of Bavi's approach, potentially reaching 35 feet Monday. Significant coastal inundation and erosion are expected, with storm surge reaching 6 to 9 feet near the storm center with 10 to 15 feet of wind- and wave-driven runup.
For the islands closest to passage of Super Typhoon Bavi, the onset of typhoon conditions is expected Monday morning just ahead of Bavi's center, continuing through Monday afternoon. Destructive typhoon conditions may be expected for 8 to 10 hours close to the center's passage, depending on forward speed.

* WHAT...A Typhoon Warning remains in effect through at least Tuesday night.
* WHERE...Marianas Coastal Waters.
* WHEN...Damaging winds expected from through early Tuesday morning. Destructive typhoon force winds expected early Monday morning through Monday afternoon with the passage of Super Typhoon Bavi.
* IMPACTS...Sustained winds of near 140 kt with gusts to 170 kt near the center. Seas of up to 45 feet near the storm center.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon conditions, including winds of 64 knots or more, are expected within the next 24 hours as Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) approaches the Marianas. Bavi is maintaining strength at high-end Category 4 to low Category 5. However, there is still uncertainty as to which islands will receive the strongest impacts due to irregular longitudinal shifts in motion. The latest model guidance continues to indicate a path near or just north of Rota, but the forecast track will likely continue to have minor track shifts during the next 24 hours. All of the islands will see impacts. The islands closest to the storm center passage will experience significantly worse conditions.

.STORM INFORMATION... At 8 AM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) was located near latitude 12.9N, longitude 149.2E. This was about 300 miles east of Guam. Storm motion was west, 280 degrees, at 7 mph. Storm Intensity was 155 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW... A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for the Marianas. Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) is expected to make passage through the southern Marianas beginning Monday morning at high-end Category 4 or Category 5 strength. It is expected to make a turn toward the west-northwest and gradually increase in forward speed through Monday. The onset of tropical storm force conditions is currently expected late this afternoon or evening. The latest forecast track still maintains passage somewhere near or to the north of Rota Island, but there is time for the track to shift north or south. All islands will experience impacts. At minimum, damaging tropical storm force conditions are expected, but damage will be catastrophic near the center of Super Typhoon Bavi, with maximum sustained winds forecast at 160 mph at time of passage. Significant flooding from torrential rains, and coastal inundation are expected. Surf will become extremely dangerous ahead of Bavi's approach, potentially reaching 35 feet Monday. Significant coastal inundation and erosion are expected, with inundation heights reaching up to 12 feet especially near the storm center.
For the islands closest to passage of Super Typhoon Bavi, the onset of typhoon conditions is expected early Monday morning just ahead of Bavi's center, continuing through Monday afternoon. The latest forecast from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) suggests that destructive typhoon conditions may be expected for 8 to 10 hours close to the center's passage depending on forward speed.

What Makes Rapid Alerts Different
Every item here clears a multi-step check before it reaches you. No raw wire copy. No speculation. Each alert is drawn from government, official, and verified primary sources, cross-checked and scored for reliability before publishing.
Alerts come through two paths: live monitoring of official and primary source feeds, and direct messages from our team when a development warrants immediate attention. Team messages are labeled "From our team."
The confidence chip on each alert tells you what kind of verification it carries, at a glance. Source attribution is included so you can trace every item back to its origin.
For detailed analysis and expanded reporting on major events, see the main Alerts page. The Rapid stream is built for speed on fast-moving developments.
Continuously updated. New items appear here as they clear verification.
Expanding Coverage: This stream is actively growing. New sources, regions, and alert categories are added on a regular basis. You may notice the coverage mix evolving as the network expands.
Reading the Confidence Chip
Each alert carries one chip that tells you its reliability level at a glance:
- Tier 1: Highest confidence. Confirmed by multiple authoritative or official sources.
- Tier 2: Strong but still developing. Backed by credible sources, with verification ongoing.
- Multi-source: Cleared sourcing, consistency, and accuracy checks; corroborated by independent reports.
Every item also clears the same checks before publishing, whichever chip it carries; the box above explains what "cleared" means. Sourcing detail (how many independent reports, whether it is a primary/official source) is shown per-alert in its "Sources" line.
How to Use This Feed
- Scan fast: The title, timestamp, and chips give you everything you need without reading the full alert.
- Trust the chip: Tier 1 and Tier 2 mean confirmed by multiple sources, at different confidence levels. Multi-source means corroborated but not yet at tier confidence. Each alert's "Sources" line spells out the detail.
- Check back: New items appear as they clear verification. The UTC clock shows you exactly how fresh the feed is.
- Need more depth? Major events get full analysis on the main Alerts page.
