Coast Guard rescues seven from boat fire near Detroit
DETROIT - The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a 45-foot vessel fire with seven people aboard on the Canadian side of the Detroit River, Thursday morning.
Coast Guard Sector Detroit watchstanders received a request for assistance from Joint Rescue Coordination Center Trenton at 2:56 a.m. following a report of a pleasure craft that had caught fire with all seven people still aboard.
Watchstanders launched the Coast Guard Station Belle Isle 29-foot Response Boat-Small boatcrew. The boatcrew arrived on scene, confirmed the pleasure craft was still on fire, and observed that all persons aboard were wearing life jackets and had gathered near the aft section of the vessel. The crew safely transferred the individuals from the burning vessel to the RB-S and transported them to Harbor Town Marina.
There were no reported injuries.
A commercial salvaging company later reported the vessel to have sunk to the bottom of the river with a charted depth of 40 feet, with no signs of pollution.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, and senior military officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen discussed the current regional security environment and opportunities for enhancing defense collaboration across the region. Leaders underscored their shared commitment to the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.
โWe continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our regional partners,โ said Cooper. โThe discussions underscored our shared commitment to regional security and stability.โ
The United States and regional partners operate the worldโs most sophisticated and largest active air and missile defense umbrella across the Middle East. In January, CENTCOM and regional countries established a new Middle Eastern Air Defense coordination cell for sharing information and threat warnings as well as responding to contingencies.

Maritime forces from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) conducted Pacific Atlas 26-1 off the coast of Japan, June 15-19.
Pacific Atlas 26-1 is an inaugural logistics demonstration exercise, designed to validate communications, logistics procedures, and sustainment concepts that support strategic deterrence and operational flexibility in the Indo-Pacific. This exercise series is enabled by decades of interoperable training of logistical capabilities between the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific.
โThe successful completion of this iteration of Pacific Atlas reinforces our collective capability to sustain distributed maritime operations,โ said USCG Capt. Brian Whisler, commanding officer of Legend-class cutter USCGC Midgett (WMSL 757). โExecuting complex logistics maneuvers like vertical replenishment (VERTREP) with JMSDF demonstrates the high level of bilateral interoperability we have achieved with our Japanese counterparts.โ
During the exercise, JCG Shunko-class patrol vessel Yumihari (PLH 44) and Midgett conducted a VERTREP, transferring valuable materials at sea via aircraft to demonstrate agile sustainment capabilities.
Following the maritime phase, subject matter experts from all three services held an exchange ashore in Japan. These sessions allowed participants to review logistics data and share best practices, further enhancing the shared operational skill sets required for long-term regional stability.
Participating forces included one anti-submarine patrol helicopter from JMSDF Fleet Air Squadron (HS) 21, Yumihari and Midgett.
Bilateral operations such as Pacific Atlas provide valuable opportunities to enhance and showcase combined readiness. The U.S. Navy and Coast Guard regularly operate alongside allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific as a demonstration of our shared commitment to a free and open region.
For this exercise, Midgett operated under tactical command of Commander Destroyer Squadron 15 to train interoperability and demonstrate coordination between U.S. and partner nation forces.
Pacific Atlas is a series of demonstrations of allied logistics interoperability, signaling collective capability to sustain distributed maritime operations in the Indo-Pacific.
U.S. 7th Fleet, the Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific.

DVIDS (CENTCOM / DoD): U.S. Pacific Fleet advances fleet resilience; conducts training to strengthen readiness and test emerging capabilities

HONOLULU โ U.S. Pacific Fleet conducted training and testing exercises April 20-May 15, 2026, in the Pacific Ocean aboard decommissioned Tarawa-class amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) and in port onboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). The training, which combined participation from several Navy commands, industry partners, and academic institutions, validated the Navyโs ability to rapidly return ships to the fight in contested environments.
The exercise commenced with controlled detonations conducted by NSWC Carderock Division and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Unit (EODMU) 11 technicians aboard ex-Peleliu at sea to simulate damage. EODMU-11 and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1 forces and engineers quickly responded to the detonations, initiated immediate damage control efforts, and assessed affected spaces.
โThis training offered a unique opportunity to achieve a hyper realistic training environment for expeditionary forces to execute key afloat salvage and repair techniques,โ said Lt. Cmdr. Nicolas Twisselman, MDSU-1 Salvage Officer. โLeveraging capabilities and experience from our counterparts to quickly respond to an incident, analyze the situation, and mitigate or dispose of the threat ensures fleet resiliency in contested environments.โ
Following the initial damage control and analysis, EOD technicians conducted response drills to detect, locate, and render safe other explosive threats aboard ex-Peleliu. Once the spaces were deemed safe and clear, mobile diving and salvage forces initiated further expeditionary shipboard repair operations.
Emerging technologies were utilized throughout the training to ensure the U.S. Navy maintains cutting-edge capabilities to complete its mission. Predictive analytics, advanced visualization, forward manufacturing, and robotics were incorporated, accelerating the transition of innovative tools from the lab to the fleet.
โOur participation in the exercise allows us to apply our expertise in platform integrity and signature management to provide a ballasted, safe vessel capable of sustaining real-world damage scenarios and supporting critical training. By providing world-class, cost-effective, and groundbreaking technical solutions at sea and in the field, we ensure our warfighters maintain their technological superiority and operational readiness," said Michael Kipp, NSWC Carderock.
Upon conclusion of the at-sea portion of the training, ex-Peleliu was towed back to JBPHH for additional in-port damage repair training, led by Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). Highlighting strong partnership between the U.S. Navy and the industrial base, the training brought together Sailors, government civilians, and experts from dozens of companies and universities.

What Makes Rapid Alerts Different
Every item here clears a multi-step check before it reaches you. No raw wire copy. No speculation. Each alert is drawn from government, official, and verified primary sources, cross-checked and scored for reliability before publishing.
Alerts come through two paths: live monitoring of official and primary source feeds, and direct messages from our team when a development warrants immediate attention. Team messages are labeled "From our team."
The confidence chip on each alert tells you what kind of verification it carries, at a glance. Source attribution is included so you can trace every item back to its origin.
For detailed analysis and expanded reporting on major events, see the main Alerts page. The Rapid stream is built for speed on fast-moving developments.
Continuously updated. New items appear here as they clear verification.
Expanding Coverage: This stream is actively growing. New sources, regions, and alert categories are added on a regular basis. You may notice the coverage mix evolving as the network expands.
Reading the Confidence Chip
Each alert carries one chip that tells you its reliability level at a glance:
- Tier 1: Highest confidence. Confirmed by multiple authoritative or official sources.
- Tier 2: Strong but still developing. Backed by credible sources, with verification ongoing.
- Multi-source: Cleared sourcing, consistency, and accuracy checks; corroborated by independent reports.
Every item also clears the same checks before publishing, whichever chip it carries; the box above explains what "cleared" means. Sourcing detail (how many independent reports, whether it is a primary/official source) is shown per-alert in its "Sources" line.
How to Use This Feed
- Scan fast: The title, timestamp, and chips give you everything you need without reading the full alert.
- Trust the chip: Tier 1 and Tier 2 mean confirmed by multiple sources, at different confidence levels. Multi-source means corroborated but not yet at tier confidence. Each alert's "Sources" line spells out the detail.
- Check back: New items appear as they clear verification. The UTC clock shows you exactly how fresh the feed is.
- Need more depth? Major events get full analysis on the main Alerts page.
