.STORM INFORMATION... At 7 AM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) was located near latitude 14.2N, longitude 145.5E. This was about 70 miles northeast of Guam. Storm motion was west-northwest, 290 degrees, at 9 mph. Storm intensity was 180 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW... The eyewall of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) is passing over Rota, and an Extreme Wind Warning is in effect. Catastrophic winds in excess of 150 mph are expected across the entirety of Rota through the next several hours. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Following the initial period of catastrophic winds, relatively calm conditions will prevail during eye passage. Do not venture out. Extremely dangerous winds will soon return on the back side of Super Typhoon Bavi.
For Guam, Tinian, and Saipan, Bavi is making its nearest approach. Damaging, strong tropical storm force winds of 58 to 73 mph are being felt at minimum. Sustained, destructive typhoon force winds of 74 mph or greater have been observed on Saipan, and may be expected for Tinian, and even northernmost points of Guam. After passing directly over Rota, Bavi is forecast to continue west- northwest at roughly 10 to 13 mph, with the typhoon-force wind field expected to depart the islands by late afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Significant shoreline erosion will occur. Waters will be deadly.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dangerous surf is ongoing along north, east, and south facing reefs today as Super Typhoon Bavi makes its way across Rota and typhoon force conditions continue, spreading to west facing reefs soon after. Surf will potentially build to 35 feet this morning, especially near Rota, and 30 feet elsewhere as Bavi makes its passage through the Marianas as a Category 5 Super Typhoon. During the passage of Bavi, coastal inundation could approach 12 feet, especially near the storm center passing over Rota due to the dome effect. Once Bavi exits to the west- northwest by Tuesday, coastal inundation and erosion is likely to increase along west facing shores while easing elsewhere.

* IMPACTS...Sustained winds of near 160 kt with gusts to 190 kt near the center. Seas of up to 45 ft near the storm center.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon conditions, including winds of 64 knots or more, are occurring as Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) moves across Marianas coastal waters and passes through Rota. Bavi is maintaining strength as a Category 5 during passage across the region. The forecast track will likely continue to have minor track shifts during the next 12 hours. All of the islands are still expected to continue seeing impacts from Bavi for much of today and tonight.
