.STORM INFORMATION... At 1 AM ChST...the center of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) was located near latitude 13.7N...longitude 146.5E. This was about 115 miles east of Guam. Storm motion was west, 270 degrees, at 10 mph. Storm intensity was 180 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW... Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) has nearly maxed out the T number scale for intense a tropical cyclone can get. This devastating category 5 tropical cyclone could hit any of the Mariana Islands, at this time the most likely for a direct hit looks like it might be Rota.

In addition to catastrophic wind damage, Bavi could end up packing storm surge damage, runup damage, and beach erosion.

* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Warning, significant coastal flooding. For the High Surf Warning, dangerously large breaking waves of 25 to 35 feet in the surf zone.

* WHERE...Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, until 4 PM ChST Wednesday. For the High Surf Warning, until 4 PM ChST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Significant shoreline erosion will occur. Waters will be deadly.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dangerous surf is expected along north, east, and south facing reefs this morning as Super Typhoon Bavi makes its way across Rota and typhoon force conditions continue, spreading to west facing reefs soon after. Surf will potentially build to 35 feet this morning, especially near Rota, and 30 feet elsewhere as Bavi makes its passage through the Marianas as a Category 5 Super Typhoon. During the passage of Bavi, coastal inundation could approach 12 feet, especially near the storm center passing over Rota due to the dome effect. Once Bavi exits to the west- northwest by Tuesday, coastal inundation and erosion is likely to increase along west facing shores while easing elsewhere.

* WHAT...A Typhoon Warning remains in effect through at least Tuesday night.

* WHERE...Marianas Coastal Waters.

* WHEN...Damaging winds expected from through early Tuesday morning. Destructive typhoon force winds expected early Monday morning through Monday afternoon with the passage of Super Typhoon Bavi.

* IMPACTS...Sustained winds of near 160 kt with gusts to 175 kt near the center. Seas of up to 45 feet near the storm center.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon conditions, including winds of 64 knots or more, are expected very soon as Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) enters the Marianas coastal waters and heads for Rota. Bavi is maintaining strength as a Category 5 during passage across the region. The forecast track will likely continue to have minor track shifts during the next 12 hours. All of the islands are still expected to continue seeing impacts from Bavi for much of today and tonight.
