US Maintains Blockade and Conducts Operations North of Musandam Peninsula as Trump Demands Iran Nuclear Concessions, Unrestricted Hormuz Access

STRAIT OF HORMUZ — US forces are conducting military operations north of the Musandam Peninsula while enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports across the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, and North Arabian Sea.

The Joint Maritime Information Center has assessed the regional threat level as CRITICAL, and no new maritime advisories have been issued since May 29.

President Trump stated that Iran must forgo nuclear weapons and open the strait to unrestricted shipping in both directions without tolls or Iranian control.

He also called for the removal of any remaining water mines and the destruction of buried enriched nuclear material in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

As of May 30, the Situation Room meeting referenced in his statement has not produced a public outcome. JMIC updates through May 28 noted significantly reduced traffic through the strait, ongoing mining threats near the traffic lanes, and persistent GNSS interference, with no confirmed maritime incidents in the prior 48 hours.

US Maritime Operations, Blockade Enforcement, and Vessel Redirection

Military operations continue north of the Musandam Peninsula in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has continued efforts to assert control, including mining activity that endangers ships and crews.

US Naval Forces Central Command, supported by assets including the USS Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group, is enforcing the blockade and has stated that vessels engaged in mine-laying will be targeted in self-defense. Non-compliant vessels may be treated as imminent threats under international law.

The blockade of Iranian ports remains active, with increased naval presence, force protection measures, and potential VHF hailing in the affected areas.

US Central Command confirmed on May 29 that 115 commercial vessels have been redirected to prevent commerce from entering or leaving Iranian ports.

Official Statements

President Donald J. Trump, May 29, 2026: “Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions. All water mines (bombs), if any, will be terminated (we have removed, through detonation, numerous such mines with our great underwater mine sweepers). Iran will complete the immediate removal and/or detonation of any mines that are left, which will not be many!. Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of ‘heading home!’ Say HELLO to your wives, husbands, parents, and families from me, your favorite President! The enriched material, sometimes referred to as ‘Nuclear Dust,’ which is buried deep underground with virtually collapsed mountains, caused by our powerful B2 Bomber attack 11 months ago, sitting on top of it, will be unearthed by the United States (which, it is agreed, is the only Country, along with China, with the mechanical capability of doing so!), in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED. No money will be exchanged, until further notice. Other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to. I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination.”

US Naval Forces Central Command via JMIC Advisory Note 005-26, May 29, 2026: “Military operations will be conducted within the area north of the Musandam Peninsula in the Strait of Hormuz (SOH). ... ANY VESSEL OBSERVED TO BE ENGAGED IN, OR SUPPORTING, MINE-LAYING ACTIVITIES WILL BE TARGETED BY U.S. FORCES IN SELF DEFENSE. ... Any vessel that does not comply with the direction of U.S. Forces may be determined to be an imminent threat and subject to proportionate measure of self-defense in accordance with international law.”

US Naval Forces Central Command via JMIC Advisory Note 006-26, May 29, 2026: “BLOCKADE OF IRAN PORTS REMAINS IN EFFECT. A restricted Area Exists Due to Military Blockade Operations in the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, North Arabian Sea, and the Strait of Hormuz.”

US Central Command, May 29, 2026: “U.S. forces continue to enforce the blockade against Iran. As of May 29, 115 commercial vessels have been redirected to ensure no commerce enters or leaves Iranian ports.”
