A strong system is expected to move through the area Sunday night
into Monday. Temperatures below freezing combined with snow levels
below 1,000 ft are indicative of snowfall for upper elevations. Mid-
level southeasterly flow suggests potential for White Pass to be
sheltered from much of the precipitation, putting them on the lower
end of the range. A band of precipitation looks to set up across the
Fairweather and Chilkat mountain ranges, increasing the likelihood of
the Haines Highway seeing periods of heavy snowfall on Monday.
* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12
inches possible.
* WHERE...Haines Borough and Klukwan and Municipality of Skagway.
* WHEN...From late Sunday night through late Monday night.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The upper elevations of the Haines Highway
near Haines Customs and the Klondike Highway near White Pass.
Higher amounts expected for the Haines Highway.
