Georgia Air National Guard adds seven recruits during Ghost Pirates Military Appreciation Game

165th Airlift Wing:

"SAVANNAH, Ga. — Seven future Airmen took the oath of enlistment during a Savannah Ghost Pirates' Military Appreciation Weekend Nov. 6 at Enmarket Arena, marking a memorable milestone for the 165th Airlift Wing.

U.S. Air Force Col. Puanani P. Miller, deputy commander of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, administered the oath on the ice in front of hockey fans and members of the Savannah community.

"The highlight for me was witnessing the enthusiasm of our newest recruits as they embark on the beginning of their military careers,” said Miller. "It is an honor to be a part of welcoming these future Airmen to the 165th Airlift Wing."

Through community partnerships and public engagement, the 165th Airlift Wing, which has been co-located at the Savannah-Hilton Head Int'l Airport for 80 years, works to foster its connection with the Savannah community while helping raise awareness of the opportunities available through military service right here at home.

Hosting the enlistment ceremony during a community event like this offered a unique setting to recognize the seven future Airmen as they take this important step.

“Community ceremonies of this caliber strengthen the bond between our service members and the public we defend,” said Miller. “As the audience listened to new enlistees take their oath it served as a powerful reminder of the weight and honor of military service."

The Georgia Air National Guard offers opportunities to serve both state and federal missions while developing professional skills, gaining experience and contributing to missions that support communities at home and beyond.
