51st Fighter Wing:

"Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea - U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Wendall Curry, 51st Comptroller Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of travel, was recognized as Mustang of the Week for his dedication to supporting Airmen, strengthening team morale and demonstrating exceptional leadership while maintaining financial readiness for the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Nov. 2, 2026.

As the travel section NCOIC, Curry oversees the review and approval of travel vouchers, helping Airmen receive accurate reimbursements following moving, deployments and exercises. With Osan undergoing tour normalization, his section has also begun integrating additional Defense Travel System responsibilities to meet the base’s evolving needs.

“When service members know that they’re getting paid correctly, that gives them peace of mind to be able to focus on the mission more,” stated Curry.

By ensuring Airmen receive accurate reimbursements and addressing financial discrepancies, Curry’s section provides the financial stability Airmen need to carry out their responsibilities without the added burden of unresolved financial concerns.

Beyond his daily responsibilities, Curry has demonstrated adaptability and resilience, particularly when he stepped into an acting flight chief position during a period of increased workload. With personnel returning from an exercise, financial closeout approaching and experienced team members departing the base, Curry balanced additional leadership responsibilities while continuing to oversee his section’s daily operations.

Master Sgt. Ny Vu, 51st CPTS financial operations flight chief, recognized Curry’s dedication while transitioning into the position.

“When I first got here, we didn’t have a flight chief, so he was filling in,” Vu recalled. “He did a great job balancing those additional responsibilities while also taking care of the Airmen and the team.”

Despite the challenges of balancing two positions, Curry viewed the experience as an opportunity for personal professional growth.

“I think challenges and being able to be resilient during those times help you prove to yourself who you are and what you’re capable of accomplishing,” said Curry.

Curry carried that same drive for growth into his education, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science with the goal of improving financial processes across the Air Force. By combining his experience in financial management with programming and data analysis, he hopes to streamline outdated systems and create more efficient processes for future Airmen.

While Curry continues to develop his skills to better serve the Air Force, he considers the relationships he builds with his fellow Airmen to be the most rewarding part of his career.

“I feel like everybody that’s in my proximity matters to me,” expressed Curry. “I want to make sure that people around me are taken care of and know their value.”

Through his dedication to financial accuracy, leadership and innovation, Curry helps strengthen Team Osan’s mission readiness, providing Airmen with the support they need to remain focused on the mission and ready to Fight Tonight."
