Fort McCoy Public Affairs Office:
"Costumes, candy, decorated vehicles and plenty of Halloween spirit filled the parking lot at McCoy’s Community Center on Oct. 28 as more than 200 community members gathered for Fort McCoy’s annual Trunk-or-Treat event.
Children dressed as superheroes, princesses, spooky creatures, and other favorite characters joined their parents and families for an afternoon of Halloween fun.
Parents and children moved from vehicle to vehicle, 27 in all, collecting treats and enjoying the creative decorations that helped transform the parking lot into a Halloween celebration.
The event, organized by Fort McCoy’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR), provided an opportunity for installation families and community members to come together and celebrate the season in a safe, family-friendly environment.
DFMWR personnel said the strong turnout and enthusiasm from participating families helped make the event a success.
The sight of children proudly showing off their costumes, parents joining in the festivities and community members taking part in the decorations reflected the spirit of togetherness that the annual event is intended to encourage.
Participating vehicles offered a variety of Halloween themes and decorations, giving children plenty of opportunities to enjoy the traditional trick-or-treat experience while visiting the different displays.
For many families, the event was about more than collecting candy. It was an opportunity to spend time together, enjoy the creativity of the season and connect with other members of the Fort McCoy community.
DFMWR personnel coordinated the event and preparations, including arrangements for vehicle participants and the use of the McCoy's Community Center parking lot. The event also provided an opportunity for families to enjoy the community center and its available services.
As the afternoon unfolded, the parking lot became a colorful gathering place filled with costumes, laughter and the excitement that makes Halloween a favorite time of year for children.
The hundreds of people who attended helped make the Oct. 28 celebration another successful installment of Fort McCoy's annual Trunk-or-Treat tradition, continuing Fort McCoy’s DFMWR’s efforts to provide recreational opportunities and strengthen connections throughout the installation community.
Fort McCoy’s motto beginning in 2026 is “Training the Total Force and Shaping the Future since 1909.” The installation’s mission: “Fort McCoy strengthens Total Force Readiness by serving as a training center, Mobilization Force Generation Installation, and Strategic Support Area enabling warfighter lethality to deploy, fight, and win our nation’s wars.”
And Fort McCoy’s vision is, “To be the premier training center supporting the most capable, combat-ready, and lethal armed forces.”
Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.
