NWS / NOAA weather: Flash Flood Warning issued August 15 at 3:08PM HST until August 15 at 4:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI

At 308 PM HST, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain bands
from Hurricane Lala are moving onshore across windward and southeast
Big Island. Additional heavy rain bands are anticipated over the next
few hours, especially across the Kau and Puna Districts. Radar
estimates that rain is falling at a rate of 1 to 2.5 inches per hour.
Automated rain gauges have reported between 1 and 2 inches of rain in
the past hour in some spots. Elevated flow has been observed in
Honolii Stream, Wailuku River, and Paauau Gulch. County emergency
management officials have reported numerous road closures due to
flooding in the South Hilo, Puna, and Kau Districts. Flash flooding
is ongoing within the warned area.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Volcano, Glenwood,
Mountain View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley,
Hawaiian Acres and Keaau.
