Iran Issues NOTAM Closing Most Airports in Western Tehran FIR Until May 25

MIDDLE EAST, On May 22 Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority issued NOTAM OIIX A1010/26 closing all airports in the western part of Tehran FIR.

The NOTAM states: “REF NOTAM A0796/26 CLSD ALL APTS IN WESTERN PART OF TEHRAN FIR (OIIX) BTN 220546Z MAY 22 AND 250830Z MAY 25. EXC OITR OIKK OIAA OISS OIYY OICC OIGG OIAW H.J. ONLY. ALL CIV IFR PAX FLTS REQ NEW PERM.”

This means all airports in the western part of the Tehran Flight Information Region are closed from 5:46 a.m. UTC on May 22 until 8:30 a.m. UTC on May 25. Operations are permitted only during daylight hours at eight specific airports: OITR, OIKK, OIAA, OISS, OIYY, OICC, OIGG, and OIAW.

Civil passenger flights under instrument flight rules must obtain new permissions to operate in the affected area.

The closure affects all airports in the western Tehran FIR, forcing civil flights to divert or cancel operations in that sector. Eight airports retain limited sunrise-to-sunset operations: OITR, OIKK, OIAA, OISS, OIYY, OICC, OIGG, and OIAW.

Civil IFR passenger flights require new permissions, increasing operational complexity for airlines. Flight tracking data shows increased traffic on eastern routes and potential delays for regional carriers.
