US Forces Intercept Iranian Attacks on Three Navy Destroyers and Conduct Strikes On Iranian Military Facilities in Strait of Hormuz
MIDDLE EAST — On May 7, Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and small boats at three U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman.
According to the U.S. military, forces intercepted every inbound threat and responded with self-defense strikes on Iranian military facilities. No U.S. assets were reported by the U.S. military to have been struck.
U.S. Central Command reported that Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and small boats as USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) transited the international sea passage.
CENTCOM reported that U.S. forces eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for the attacks, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.
The Command added that it does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces.
A spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces said U.S. airstrikes hit civilian areas along the coasts of Qeshm Island, Bandar Khamir, and Sirik. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stated the security of shipping and energy transit had been jeopardized by the United States and its allies through violations of the ceasefire and imposition of the blockade.
