Canada's Nationwide Internet And Mobile Connectivity At 75% After Outage - Canada's internet and mobile connectivity nationwide is at "75% of ordinary levels" after a "disruption to the Rogers network" according to the Netblocks internet observatory. Canada's cyber intelligence agency says there is no evidence of it being caused by a cyber attack.
The internet outage, which extends to mobile services began early in the day on July 8th, 2022, and is "ongoing" according to the Cloudflare monitoring service Cloudflare Radar, which posted that there has been a partial recovery of traffic from the Rogers network since the beginning of the outage.
The disruption has affected internet, mobile access, banking, transport, and even government access, and reports of disruptions across Canada on social media.
Walter Bloomberg announced that Canada's border services agency says that they may not be able to complete their arrivecan submission due to the current Rogers network outage.
Community food coordinator Sophia Bank wrote, "With the outage across Canada I feel terrible for folks who can’t buy groceries. Can’t access their money".
The issue with Rogers Communications Inc. network has caused some consumer advocates and antitrust experts to call for more competition within Canada's telecommunications industry, as well as a public probe into what caused the disruption.
Canada's cyber intelligence agency, however, says that there is no evidence that the Rogers outage was caused by a cyber attack, saying "As of right now, Rogers remains best placed to address questions related to the nature of the outage. At this time, CSE has no indication this is related to malicious cyber threats".
Rogers Communications Inc. has announced that wireless services are beginning to return for most of its users.
A statement put out by Rogers President and CEO Tony Staffieri said, "We know going a full day without connectivity has real impacts on our customers and all Canadians. On behalf of all of us here at Rogers, Rogers for Business, Fido, chatr and cityfone, I want to sincerely apologize for this service interruption and the impact it is having on people from coast to coast to coast".
“As our teams continue working to resolve the situation, I want to make two commitments to you:
First, we are working to fully understand the root cause of this outage and we will make all the changes necessary to ensure that in the future we meet and exceed your expectations for our networks.
Second, we will make this right for our valued customers. We will proactively apply a credit to all our customers impacted by the outage and will share more details shortly.”
“I take full responsibility for ensuring we at Rogers earn back your full trust and are once again there to connect you to what matters.”
Interac spokesperson Bryan Bossin said that his company's debit and e-transfer services are still experiencing disruptions across Canada as of Friday night.
Police agencies in Canada have also warned that the outage may also affect people's ability to call 911 emergency services. The Toronto Police Department put out an alert saying that they were "working to resolve these issues" and said that some people "will have trouble connecting" in order to call 911.
The advisory said, "ADVISORY: City of Toronto - The Rogers Network is experiencing some technical difficulties - Some people will have trouble connecting - There are some connection problems calling 9-1-1 - We are working to resolve these issues ^dh".
E-Comm 9-1-1 tweeted, "cellphone customers in #BC. If you are experiencing an emergency, dial 9-1-1. If your call fails, please call back from another carrier or a landline if possible. #911BC.We are getting reports of possible service issues [email protected]".

US Fails Another Hypersonic Missile Test Due To "Anomaly" - The United States has failed the flight test of a new US hypersonic missile system in Hawaii, called "Conventional Prompt Strike". The failure was said to be most likely due to a problem that happened after ignition took place, according to a statement by the US Department of Defense.
Pentagon spokesman Navy Lieutenant Commander Tim Gorman said that "An anomaly occurred following ignition of the test asset. the Department remains confident that it is on track to field offensive and defensive hypersonic capabilities on target dates beginning in the early 2020s".
"Program officials have initiated a review to determine the cause to inform future tests. While the Department was unable to collect data on the entirety of the planned flight profile, the information gathered from this event will provide vital insights," he added.
In October, 2022 another flight test of the missile failed due to a malfunction with the booster. The malfunction had kept the missile from leaving the launch pad.

US Now Has Over 100,000 Troops Stationed In Europe - The United States now has over 100,000 troops stationed in Europe, which has increased from the 70,000 U.S. troops that were stationed in Europe when Russia's invasion on Ukraine began at the end of February.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has stated that the United States "increased the number of U.S. troops in Europe from roughly 70,000 to more than 100,000 over these last months".
In May, during a press briefing, U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price had said that the US was planning to have an ongoing presence of around 100,000 troops in Europe. "Before that invasion, we were clear that we would do a few things if [Russian President Vladimir Putin’s] aggression went ahead," Price had stated.
"We made clear that we would provide unprecedented levels of security assistance to support our Ukrainian partners so that they could effectively defend their freedom, defend their democracy, defend their country from what was then the potential of Russian aggression. We made clear that we would impose severe consequences on the Russian economy, on the Russian financial system".
"We also said that we would reinforce and take steps to reassure the Alliance, the member states of the Alliance, and particularly those on the eastern flank of the NATO Alliance, and that’s what we’ve done."
"We have – there are now some 100,000 U.S. service members on the European continent. That number has risen in recent weeks precisely because we are fulfilling the pledge that we made prior to Russian – prior to Russia’s invasion".
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is also increasing the number of its NATO Response Force troops at high readiness from 40,000 to "well over 300,000", according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday.
NATO Increases Number Of Rapid Response Forces On High Readiness To Over 300,000 - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is increasing the number of its NATO Response Force troops at high readiness from 40,000 to "well over 300,000", according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday.
NATO now says that Russia has walked away from dialogue, and has now become a direct threat, choosing "confrontation instead of dialogue". "Russia has walked away from the partnership and the dialogue that NATO has tried to establish with Russia for many years," he stated. "They have chosen confrontation instead of dialogue. We regret that - but of course, then we need to respond to that reality".
"I expect the allies will state clearly that Russia poses a direct threat to our security, to our values, to the rules-based international order" Stoltenberg said. "Together, this constitutes the biggest overhaul of our collective deterrence and defense since the Cold War".

Portable Nuclear Gauge Has Been Stolen In Pennsylvania - Thieves stole a vehicle that had a portable nuclear gauge in it that contains radioactive nuclear material. While the vehicle was returned, the gauge is still missing and may have been damaged after the theft of the vehicle took place.
The nuclear density gauge belonged to a construction inspection company and is used to "evaluate the properties of building and road-bed materials" and the nuclear material inside is safely contained, but can expose the population to radiation if it is tampered with, mishandled or damaged.
The state's Department of Environmental Protection said that if the device's sealed radioactive material are badly damaged or struck by a vehicle, "there is potential for damage to the radioactive source and spread of contamination".
David Allard, director of the Bureau of Radiation Protection said in a press release that "It is critical for anyone who has information about the lost nuclear gauge to contact local authorities or DEP", but "As long as the device is not tampered with or damaged, it presents no hazard to public safety".
Environmental authorities however have stated that they believe the gauge "may have been damaged after the theft of the vehicle" and are encouraging anyone who comes upon the device not to touch it and to contact the authorities.
The press release also stated that "KAKS and Company LLC is licensed by DEP to possess and use the gauge. This type of nuclear gauge is commonly used to evaluate the properties of building and road-bed materials at construction sites throughout the commonwealth. The radioactive material contained within the gauge is believed to be in a safe, shielded position. However, it may have been damaged after the theft of the vehicle".

Russia Warns Of Direct Conflict With US, Which It Says Is Provoking It - Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov has warned that the West giving Ukraine weapons and ammunition may lead to direct military confrontation between Russia and the United States and claimed that the invasion was a result of Ukraine carrying out genocide of Russians.
Antonov told Newsweek, "The special operation in Ukraine is the result of the unwillingness of the Kiev regime to stop the genocide of Russians by fulfilling its obligations under the international commitments".
"The desire of the NATO member states to use the territory of a neighboring state to establish a foothold in the struggle against Russia is also obvious" he continued.
Antonov said that in Russia's eyes the war on Ukraine that started on February 24th was actually instigated 8 years prior, when the Euromaidan uprising toppled the Ukrainian government, which at the time had close ties with Russia.
According to Antonov, the uprising put a pro-Western administration in its place which sought close ties with NATO and the European Union, rather than with Russia.
In Russia's eyes, this was a "bloody coup d'état instigated by the West" in which "ultranationalist ideas came to power in Kiev", he stated.
Then, Antonov said that the removal of the Russian as the national language in Ukraine, and other policies that he said Moscow views as hostile were implemented.
He said that Russia seized Crimea with the goal of protecting the ethnic Russian majority in the region, at which time pro-Russian separatists rose up, which lead to 14,000 deaths which included civilians that each side blamed the other for.
He then accused NATO of carrying out a military exploration of Ukraine, and Ukraine of having plans of acquiring nuclear weapons. Both Ukraine and the head of the UN atomic agency IAEA has denied these allegations.
"The NATO member countries have commenced a military exploration of Ukraine It was flooded with Western weaponry while President Vladimir Zelensky announced Kiev's plans to acquire nuclear weapons which would threaten not only neighboring countries, but also the entire world", he stated.
Antonov also told Newsweek that he rejected claims by Ukraine that Russia had killed civilians in places such as Bucha where civilians were reportedly executed, some with their hands tied behind their backs, and instead claimed that Ukraine had faked the entire massacre.
"The Russian Federation is taking the necessary measures to preserve life and safety of civilians. We do everything to maintain the normal functioning of critical infrastructure facilities, to ensure law and order and the security of people. The strikes are made only on military targets and exclusively with high-precision weapons" he said.
Another strike that recently hit the Kramatorsk train station full of Ukrainian civilians attempting to flee, killed at least 57 civilians. The missile had the words "For Children" written on it in Russian.
While Ukraine accuses Russia of carrying out this attack, Russia in return accused Ukraine of carrying out the attack.
Meanwhile, Washington has supported Ukraine's assessment of the attack on the Kramatorsk train station and promised to send more military aid to Ukraine.
Antonov, however warned that such aid could lead to a direct conflict between the United States and Russia.
He stated, "The NATO member countries have commenced a military exploration of Ukraine It was flooded with Western weaponry while President Vladimir Zelensky announced Kyiv's plans to acquire nuclear weapons which would threaten not only neighboring countries, but also the entire world", he stated.
Antonov, however warned that such aid could lead to a direct conflict between the United States and Russia. "Western states are directly involved in the current events as they continue to pump Ukraine with weapons and ammunitions, thereby inciting further bloodshed" he stated.
"We warn that such actions are dangerous and provocative as they are directed against our state. They can lead the U.S. and the Russian Federation onto the path of direct military confrontation. Any supply of weapons and military equipment from the West, performed by transport convoys through the territory of Ukraine, is a legitimate military target for our Armed Forces".

This new tactic is especially dangerous for non combatants who may accidentally come upon the mines, especially children unaware that there may be an improvised explosive device hidden in various places on the ground.
In the town of Tepalcatepec, the self defense movement which is fighting the Jalisco cartel said that improvised land mines heavily damaged an army vehicle last week and showed photos of the army's armored vehicle and the damages that it had taken from what they claimed was a land mine.
The spokesman for the group said that the army vehicle came upon the land mine on Saturday in the town of Taixtan, which is near Tepalcatepec, a location where gun battles have been recently taken place with the Jalisco cartel. It's the first time such a device has been used by the cartel, though they have been using drones to drop bombs on rivals for some time now.
Provda Claims Russian Nuclear Submarines Stationed Off US Coasts - Russian state propaganda machine and Kremlin mouthpiece Provda news claims that Russian nuclear submarines are currently on duty off the U.S. coasts, citing two 'unconfirmed' reports which included one submarine located near the east coast of the United States and one off the west coast, and also another 'presumably' in the Arctic.
Pravda says that the Russian submarines on active duty off the coasts of the United States 'can respond to to any act of aggression immediately' and then cited the Sina Military publication saying "The Russian submarines can presumably be located off both the western and the eastern coasts of the United States. Given their stealthiness, the Pentagon may not even be aware of their whereabouts. It is more than likely that another Russian submarine is staying in the Arctic, deep under the ice".
Pravda stated that it is 'impossible to either confirm or deny these reports today' and says that Russian nuclear powered submarines loaded with nuclear weapons are indeed on duty both in the Pacific and 'probably' located a thousand kilometers off the US coast, citing Avia.pro publication reports..
The excessive use of 'probably' and 'unconfirmed' and 'presumably' indicates that this is either attempts by Russia to spread misinformation, or possibly leaking out legitimate information on purpose to fulfill an agenda, such as convey a thinly veiled threat to the United States.
If there are in fact Russian nuclear submarines off the coast, the United States military most certainly knows not only that they are there, but also their precise locations at any given time and silently watching their movements.
GOP Lawmaker: Americans Should Get Out Of Ukraine And Also Said We Should Be Focused On America's Southern Border - After a classified congressional briefing on the situation between Russia and Ukraine a GOP lawmaker stated the briefing is 'top secret' but what he can say is "Americans need to get out of Ukraine". So there's a lot that I can't share. But what I would tell any Americans who are in Ukraine, they need to get out. It is an important [and] serious moment for their safety".
"Right now, there's commercial air traffic that is going to be capable now, and there's no way to guarantee the safety for them if this escalates" he said.
Zeldin also addressed issues on the Southern Border, saying that there are many people who are currently focused on the situation in Ukraine and their border and who aren't focused on the southern border of the United States.
"We have to make sure that we are putting the highest priority on our own border. And there's a whole lot of people that need to do some reflection because they're caring a lot more about Ukraine's border right now".

Judge Jeffrey Brown said that the case was not about whether people should be vaccinated, or even about federal power in general, "It is instead about whether the president can, with the stroke of a pen and without the input of Congress, require millions of federal employees to undergo a medical procedure as a condition of their employment".

Biden Orders Release Of 50 Million Barrels Of Oil From Reserves - In an attempt to lower surging gas prices Biden has ordered the release of 50 million barrels of #oil from the emergency reserves.
The White House put out a statement saying, "Today, the President is announcing that the Department of Energy will make available releases of 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower prices for Americans and address the mismatch between demand exiting the pandemic and supply".
"And, as a result of President Biden’s leadership and our diplomatic efforts, this release will be taken in parallel with other major energy consuming nations including China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom".
"This culminates weeks of consultations with countries around the world, and we are already seeing the effect of this work on oil prices. Over the last several weeks as reports of this work became public, oil prices are down nearly 10 percent".
"The U.S. Department of Energy will make available releases of 50 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in two ways: 32 million barrels will be an exchange over the next several months, releasing oil that will eventually return to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the years ahead".
The exchange is a tool matched to today’s specific economic environment, where markets expect future oil prices to be lower than they are today, and helps provide relief to Americans immediately and bridge to that period of expected lower oil prices".
The exchange also automatically provides for re-stocking of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over time to meet future needs".
